Sinn Féin MLA Caoimhe Archibald has requested a joint meeting with the Vice Chancellors of Queen’s University and Ulster University to discuss student mental health and well-being.
The Party’s Further and Higher Education Spokesperson said:
“Following the tragic loss of two young people in the past week, I requested a joint meeting with the Vice Chancellors of Queen’s University and Ulster University.
“The universities have agreed to meet me and my party colleagues Órlaithí Flynn, our spokesperson on mental health and suicide prevention, and South Belfast MLA Máirtín Ó Muilleoir.
“We want to discuss how the universities, statutory agencies and others can deliver on their Protect Life 2 commitments to provide a joint approach to student well-being, and ensure students are encouraged to seek support and to access those services if required.
“Being a student can be a very positive experience, but it can also be extremely stressful and at times lonely.
“It’s important that all students know where to turn and how to access the support they need.”
