In response to the Planning Inspectorate’s review of the Mayor’s housing target, Andrew Boff AM, Chairman of the Planning Committee said:
“The Planning Inspectorate’s review of the Mayor’s housing target raises concerns all Members of the London Assembly Planning Committee have had for some time.
“The review mentions the Mayor’s small site policy which also worries us. This policy effectively means that all local authorities have the same targets when it comes to building homes for Londoners on small sites. This policy very much assumes that one size fits all but this is not the case when it comes to housing.
“While the Committee understands that building more houses is a key priority for London, we want to ensure that the Mayor is building the right size, type and quality of homes that Londoners need. And while ambitious targets are welcomed, the Mayor needs to be realistic on what can be achieved.
“The Planning Committee will continue to monitor this issue and other issues raised in the Planning Inspectorate’s review.”
