The brand new bus stops on Charles Cross Roundabout have opened today. These bus stops were previously further up Charles Street but have been moved down the road so that queues for Drake Circus don’t hamper traffic on the roundabout.
The teams have also cleared all the cones from Exeter Street. The old bus gate has gone and now three lanes of traffic can access the roundabout.
So what’s left to do?
Well, there’s still bits of final resurfacing to do on the roundabout itself. Overnight works will continue on that this week, details the closures can be found below. The site compound on Hampton Street will also go in the next few weeks, before Balfour Beatty move off the site altogether by the end of October.
The one thing that will be staying for a little while, though is the lane closure on Charles Street southbound, outside of the College of Art. We need to keep that closed so that the teams working on The Box can install some much needed drainage.
This final piece of work is likely to go on until mid-November. When the drainage work is finished, the final resurfacing will be applied to that part of the road and with everything finished by the beginning of December.
Night working will take place Monday to Friday nights from 7pm until 7am, except on Thursday, when the road will not be closed until 8pm to allow for Drake Circus late night shopping.
