Coventry’s Building Bridges project within the Migration Team has developed ‘Welcome to Coventry’, a new web app aimed at making the city more accessible to new arrivals.
This app hopes to help those who are new to our wonderful city – particularly but not exclusively migrants and refugees – in finding information most of us take for granted, from school term times to bin collection days. Other areas covered include healthcare, employability and education, to name a few.
Councillor Abdul Salam Khan, Deputy Council Leader, said: “Being an official City of Peace and Reconciliation, Coventry has a long history of extending a warm welcome to newcomers in the city. It’s great to see an app that showcases this”.
Its inbuilt Browser Aloud technology which enables users to translate the pages into a wide variety of languages, and its interactive map that helps users locate useful services in their local area, ensure that this app is truly accessible to everyone.
Welcome to Coventry, developed using funding from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government’s Controlling Migration Fund, is available both online and to download on your mobile device now. Simply go to www.welcometocoventry.co.uk and follow the instructions.
