NZEI Te Riu Roa has welcomed the Government’s announcement of a $16m package to improve schools’ energy efficiency.
The union’s incoming President for 2020, Liam Rutherford, said the move was consistent with NZEI’s Climate Change Policy, and schools were keen to reduce their energy consumption and environmental impact.
“It’s not just about the positive impact on our power bills that frees up money for other education resources – our students want action on climate change, and we have to take every step we can to reduce our environmental footprint,” he said.
