This is the third exhibition of the cycle on the work of Richter abroad.
In the Memorial apartment of Svyatoslav Richter on Bolshaya Bronnaya 12 November exhibition opens The “years of pilgrimage Sviatoslav Richter. Austria — Germany”. It is dedicated to the tour of the pianist and his work abroad. This is the third thematic exhibition of the cycle. The first was held in 2017 and talked about the trips Richter in France and Italy, second, 2018, was devoted to visits to the UK and the USA.
The new exhibit includes rare archival documents are: photographs, cards and letters, records and sheet music with autographs and inscriptions, unique designs for Opera productions 1920-1940-ies and other exhibits from museums of Moscow, Moscow region and St. Petersburg. A special place is occupied by graphic works of famous Austrian and German artists from the collection of musician: Franz von Lenbach and Hans ARP, Hans Hartung, and others.
One section is devoted to the musical theatre and the three composers who most strongly influenced the work of the young Sviatoslav Richter, Franz Shreker, Richard Wagner and Ernst Kshenek. At the exhibition you can see sketches of costumes and scenery for Opera, schreker’s “the distant sound”. Premiered in 1925 at the Mariinsky theatre. The stands will also be photos from the rehearsals and the premiere, first edition of vocal score as well as the writing of Franz Schreker composer and musicologist Boris Asafiev. Here we show sketches of the operas of Richard Wagner’s “the Valkyrie” (directed by Sergei Eisenstein), “johnny strumming” and “jumping shadow” Ernst Kshenek. Will be included in the exhibition and three films, assembled specially for the exhibition of newsreels and fragments of silent movies of the 20-ies of the last century.
The first time Richter went on tour to Austria in 1962 and in West Germany in 1971. the Pianist often played in Vienna and Salzburg, he worked with renowned musicians and conductors: Herbert von Karajan, Bernhard Paumgartner, Kurt Sanderling, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau. Touring Germany, the pianist tried to visit as many old cities, has performed at various venues, attended theatres, museums and exhibitions, familiar with contemporary artists.
