The UN General Assembly in the 28th once voted in support of the resolution “necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed by USA against Cuba”. The document received 187 votes in favour, 3 against (USA, Israel, Brazil) and two abstentions (Colombia and Ukraine). Once again demonstrated the unity in condemnation of the US illegal blockade of Cuba in violation of international law and the UN Charter.

The discussion was attended by most of the member States with individual or group statements condemning lasting 57 years of stifling political, economic and financial embargo against Cuba and called for its withdrawal.

Speaking at the meeting Deputy Minister of foreign Affairs Alexander A. Pankin stressed that expanding in recent years, discriminatory and illegal practice of extraterritorial application of the United States as their national legislation is a challenge for the implementation of the Agenda for sustainable development for the period till 2030 and it undermines the system of international relations.

In these circumstances, Russia will continue to show solidarity with the fraternal Cuban people in overcoming the hardships caused by the sanctions the actions of Washington, continuing broad economic and humanitarian cooperation and assistance in the development of the island of freedom.
