The exhibition tells about the unique service cruisers, the design of which began in March 1895 in the framework of the shipbuilding program. It then began work on the project armored cruiser for the Pacific ocean, suitable for performing the functions of reconnaissance and combat merchant shipping of the enemy at a relatively small distance from the bases. The project was completed by the summer of 1896, after which the stocks of Galley island was laid the same type of “Pallada” and “Diana”, and a little later at the shipyard of the New Admiralty – third cruiser series – “Aurora”.

“Aurora” – cruiser 1st rank of the Baltic fleet of type “Diana”. Named in honor of sailing frigate “Aurora”, famous for the defense of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky during the Crimean war.

During the Russo-Japanese war he participated in the campaign of the Second Pacific squadron, which ended in the Tsushima battle. The cruiser also took part in the First world war. A blank shot from the “Aurora” was the signal for the storming of the Winter Palace. The cruiser became one of the main symbols of the October revolution.
