Northern District police are seeking information from Hillbank residents after a car thief was disturbed in the act overnight.
At around 4.20am on Monday 18 November, a resident in Gladman Close, woke to hear his car being started in the driveway of his home.
The car owner raced outside to see his Commodore sedan reversing out the driveway, but the would be car-thief didn’t notice the angled driveway and drove the car over the boundary retaining wall tipping the car over on to it’s side into the neighbouring property.
The male suspect described as wearing dark clothing, about 165cms tall and with black curly hair, scrambled from the stricken car and ran off.
Police patrols searched the area including a police dog patrol but the suspect wasn’t located.
The damaged 2011 Commodore sedan needed to be towed from the driveway.
Anyone with information on this or similar incidents in the Hillbank area is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
