Join us for Tawata Production’s Fire in the Water, Fire in the Sky; an innovative performance installation created and directed by Mīria George and performed by Te Hau Winitana, Mapihi Kelland and Amanda Noblett.

Fire in the Water, Fire in the Sky, is a modern statement of climate change and colonisation across the Pacific, an untangling of the greatest collision to have impacted Te Moana-nui-a-kiva – western imperialism.

Told through movement, ‘ura, song and theatre, Fire in the Water, Fire in the Sky is a cautionary tale of greed, destruction and big business. This call of hope has been presented in art galleries and museums around Aotearoa, and we are proud to host it here at Auckland Museum.

Fire in the Water, Fire in the Sky is a promenade performance which runs for around 30 minutes and will be presented three times daily.

The installation was created in O’ahu, Hawai’i Nei in 2017 as part of Mīria’s Fulbright-Creative New Zealand Pacific Writer in Residency at University of Hawai’i at Mānoa. It premiered at the Kia Mau Festival in 2017.

Featuring design by Cara Louise Waretini and Tony de Goldi.
