The reform of the Common Agricultural Policy: public hearing (associated with ENVI)

On 4 December, the AGRI Committee will organise a public hearing on the reform of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). This meeting will take place during the current legislative work on the CAP beyond 2020. It will address the components of the CAP reform package, as amended by the AGRI Committee, which might be appropriate for further consideration.
Revaluation of the wolf population in the EU: public hearing

On 5 December, the PETI-ENVI-AGRI Committees will organise a public hearing on the Revaluation of the wolf population in the EU. For decades, the wolf was regarded as strongly endangered in Europe. Its population is now recovering in many areas of the continent due, among other things, to favourable legislation and changes in the habitat.
Potential impact of the Mercosur agreement on the AGRI market: public hearing

On 18 November, the AGRI Committee organised a hearing to analyse the potential impacts of the Mercosur agreement on the agricultural market. Following 20 years of negotiations, the EU and Mercosur countries struck a political agreement in June 2019 which aims to bring political and economic relations between the trading partners closer together, and to create the world’s biggest market (by population size), for goods and services.
World Food Day 2019

On 18 November, following the 2019 World Food Day, AGRI, ENVI and DEVE committees jointly organised an exchange of views with a representative of the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). On this occasion, Ms Maria Helena Semedo, FAO Deputy Director-General Climate and Natural Resources, addressed the issue of improving global food systems sustainability and resilience to climate change.
CAP Transitionary Measures Regulations: presentation by the EC

The Commission presented two proposals for regulations which should ensure the continuation of the current CAP through the transitionary period before the application of the new CAP.

The Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development (AGRI) is an important player in the shaping of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), as well as policies in the fields of animal health and welfare, plant health, agricultural products quality, forestry and agroforestry of the Union. The majority of this work is done through preparation of the reports for legislative proposals, falling under the co-decision procedure between Parliament and the Council, for adoption in plenary.
