MFB firefighters responded to Clayton South just before 2:30am after a Triple Zero (000) caller alerted them to a house fire.
Crews arrived at the Glenelg Drive property within six minutes and were met with a fire at the rear of a two storey brick house.
Thankfully the home’s six occupants managed to escape the fire safely.
Crews wearing breathing apparatus attacked the fire from inside the home in a bid to get it under control.
Almost 30 firefighters managed to contain the blaze to two rooms at the back of the property. The incident was declared under control within 20 minutes of MFB’s arrival on scene.
There were initial concerns for the family dog which went missing when the blaze broke out, however it has been found safe and unharmed.
At the height of the fire there were six MFB appliances on scene including pumpers, a rescue and an aerial unit, in addition to a CFA unit.
MFB’s specialist Fire Investigation Unit is analysing the scene this morning to determine a cause.
