Although Luohu is an old district in Shenzhen, as the cradle of the city’s expansion , it should explore a development path with its own unique characteristics, Mayor Chen Rugui said during his call on the Luohu delegation on the sidelines of the annual meeting of the city’s top legislature on Jan. 10.
The deputies of the People’s Congress of Luohu District explained to the mayor about their suggestions aimed at seeking new development of Luohu.
Talking about the district’s limited land resources, Chen urged it to adapt its good points and eliminate shortcomings, and give full play to its three obvious advantages in ecology and culture, finance and trade, and close ties with the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
According to the municipal government’s work report for this year, it will accelerate infrastructure construction of projects related to the Bijiashan River in Luohu to boost industrial and environmental upgrading along the river.
This is seen as expediting integration of the district’s industrial development and ecological preservation.
Luohu Party chief Luo Yude said the district had started planning for these projects, seeking to ensure they would become a model of integrated development in Shenzhen.
Nie Xinping, director of the Shenzhen Development and Reform Commission and former head of the Luohu district government, urged it to further tap into its potential in commerce and build a model consumption zone with distinct characteristics.
Guo Wanda, a member of the Shenzhen Municipal People’s Political Consultative Conference, the city’s top political advisory body, stressed that Luohu should take advantage of its closeness to Hong Kong, and stimulate the growth of its port economic belt.
Luo agreed that Luohu aimed to become an important transport hub connecting Guangdong with Hong Kong in the Greater Bay Area, and he hoped the municipal government could support the district’s application to integrate the upgrading of the Shenzhen Railway Station with other urban renovation projects.
Chen Rugui suggested Luohu should inject more vitality into its development through the upgrading of its old urban areas, developing the port economy and promoting industrial transformation and upgrading.
