Green Party NI leader, Clare Bailey MLA has paid tribute to nurses and healthcare workers after strike action planned for next week was suspended.
Clare Bailey said: “I am relieved that a resolution has been reached and that nurses and healthcare workers will be on hospital wards, healthcare centres and working in the community, rather than on the picket line during all of next week.
“Nurses and healthcare workers didn’t want to strike, but their concerns around safe staffing levels and the denial of pay equality forced their hand. I want to pay tribute to the RCN NI and other Unions for their commitment to patients and our NHS in taking strike action.
“The 70th birthday of the NHS was marked just two years ago and we celebrated NHS staff as it’s greatest resource.”
“I’m hopeful that we’re in a position where NHS staff across Northern Ireland will be fairly remunerated and that commitments to safe staffing levels are delivered upon.”
