SDLP Health spokesperson, Sinead Bradley MLA has urged women to prioritise their smear test

The South Down MLA said:

“An average of 83 women across the North are diagnosed every year with cervical cancer, with approximately 20 women losing their life per year. Research from the Public Health Agency have shown that eight out of 10 cervical cancers could be prevented by a smear test.”

“I strongly encourage women across the North to make an appointment and have their smear test without delay. The fear of embarrassment or uncomfortableness is understandable but it could be lifesaving.”

“I encourage all women eligible to receive a smear test to do so without delay.”
