Louise Haigh MP, Labour’s Shadow Policing Minister, commenting on the National Child Protection Inspections report highlighting problems with police evaluation of risks to children, said:
“This is a silent crisis and urgent action is needed. It is simply unacceptable that the police are not recognising or evaluating risks to children well enough. At the same time the safety net and support services, which the most vulnerable children depend on, have been recklessly and thoughtlessly axed.
“Now vulnerable children are being utterly betrayed by a whole-system failure to protect them. Stemming this crisis requires a national strategy, joined-up working and all areas of the police to be properly resourced.”
