The International Donors Conference in solidarity with Venezuelan migrants and refugees in the countries of the region, which I participated in today, is a move in support of those people who were forced to leave Venezuela due to the political uncertainty and the humanitarian crisis in the country. This initiative was taken by the European Union and Spain, with the participation of 40 countries and with the aim of providing assistance and support to Venezuela’s neighbouring countries, which have shouldered a disproportionate burden from the repercussions of the political situation there, taking in some 5.5 million refugees and migrants.  The goal of everyone participating in this initiative is to support the displaced persons and the communities receiving large numbers of migrants and refugees, and to optimise the response to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic in countries of reception. I expressed Greece’s deep concerns over the ongoing political, economic and social crisis in Venezuela, stressing the need to provide assistance as soon as possible. Our country expressed its intention to contribute in order to mitigate the repercussions of the humanitarian crisis in the country.
