MIL OSI Translation. Region: Russian Federation –
The updating of the country’s main exhibition is in 2014. Pavilions return to their historical appearance.
In recent years, ENEA restored more than 20 cultural heritage sites and landscape Park was decorated with more than a dozen new facilities.
“ENEA has continued to live and grow. Today there are 13 museums and exhibition centers — from the “Moskvarium” to “Bee”. Started from the pavilion “Space”, now working on “Atom”,” said
Sergei Sobyanin during the inspection of construction works in the pavilion of the Corporation “Rosatom”.
Together with the Mayor of Moscow at the site visited, the General Director of the company Alexey Likhachev.
The return of the peaceful atom
The pavilion of the state Corporation “Rosatom” is built on the site of the former pavilion 19 — standard building of aluminum and glass, which was in poor technical condition. Earlier this area was the location of pavilions “of the Tajik SSR” and “Tatar ASSR”. In 1967 was built the pavilion “Mechanization and electrification of agriculture”, which was then renamed “Chief demonstration testing computer center” — it tells about the features and capabilities of electronic computers.
In the 1990s, the pavilion features information and exhibition center of the Ministry of the Russian Federation for civil defense, emergencies and elimination of consequences of natural disasters. It held the exhibition of rescue equipment and seminars on the work of the emergency services. Part of the building rented under commercial and office space.
A new stage of development of this territory in the Central part of the exhibition is associated with the creation of the Museum of atomic energy Corporation “Rosatom”. Earlier the industry have already dedicated the pavilion at ENEA: in 1956, during the all-Union industrial exhibition pavilion No. 62 has received the name “Nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.” The visitors were shown the instrumentation, collection of uranium ores, the means of radiological protection and layouts of systems for fusion research. In the Central hall housed the current nuclear reactor with uranium-235 with a capacity of 100 kilowatts. Visitors could observe the effect of Cherenkov radiation, a characteristic blue glow in the water column produced by a nuclear reaction. Atomic pavilion has become a mandatory part of tour programs for foreign delegations.
In 1964 in connection with the extension of the exhibition theme, the exhibition was transferred to pavilion No. 71. Among the exhibits were models of nuclear reactors and nuclear plants to demonstrate the principles of operation of nuclear power plants and nuclear-powered icebreakers.
In the recent history of VDNKH in the pavilion № 71 has opened the Palace of government services, and in the pavilion № 62, received in the change of exposition in 1967, the name “environmental Protection”, currently houses the international center for ballet.
But the nuclear topic is not left ENEA. To create the pavilion “Atom”, the Moscow Government jointly with Corporation “Rosatom” in 2016, held an international competition, which was won by the architectural concept of the Russian design Bureau UNK project. The building will have seven floors, three of which are underground. Total area of 25.1 thousand square meters, including 1.2 thousand “squares” — operated roof.
“If we talk about the achievements of the national economy, Rosatom is everything, this is one of the main achievements of our country over the last decade for sure. Today Rosatom is the leading Corporation in the world in this industry. I think the best. The creation of such a pavilion, which is itself unique will be the new jewel of ENEA, which will attract the attention of residents and tourists from around the world,” said the Mayor.
The concept of the future Museum is to show the history and modern achievements of domestic nuclear power as a high-tech and safe industry that contributes to the economic development of the country. Visitors can get acquainted with the atomic project of the USSR, see the installation and to see the interesting exhibits.
The construction of the pavilion began in 2018. Modern exhibition complex will be interesting for wide audience and for professionals working in nuclear energy.
“Our goal is simple — we want to make the best pavilion. Best pavilion at VDNKH, the best pavilion in Moscow, the best pavilion in the world. It is both a Museum (the Museum of knowledge, Museum in which you want to come back), and a space for communication,” — said General Director of Rosatom Alexey Likhachev.
The space is divided into three parts. The underground part is designed to exhibit the fundamental knowledge first and ground floor — modern. It is planned to organize temporary exhibitions, and conduct educational exhibitions. The upper floors are allocated to the zone of free communication.
Land space is divided into an open part that is intended primarily for temporary exhibitions, and closed, which will house lectures, creative workshops, a reading garden, offices, cafes. The roof will be a restaurant with stained glass, from where opens a beautiful view of the neighboring pavilions of the exhibition.
The project has unique technical solution — hanging the console, the length of the flight which is 53 meters and panoramic Windows with glass panes measuring 12 by three meters. Under the building is the river Kamenka, therefore, designers and builders when the device of underground floors and Foundation required a special skill.
The estimated average number of visitors of the pavilion Corporation “Rosatom” — three thousand people a day. Maximum capacity of 4.5 thousand people at a time. Now on object works on installation of metal structures, reinforcement and concreting stairs of the underground part, slabs and vertical structures floors.
Planned commissioning — August 2021.
“Butterfly garden” and “House ant”
In February of 2019 began repair work in pavilion 29 “Floriculture and greenery”. It was built in the early 1970-ies by the architect I. Vinogradsky, A. Rydaeva, G. Astafyeva, V. Nikitina, N. Bogdanova, L. Marinovsky. This building style Soviet modernism: flat roof with lanterns, narrow band of vertical Windows, dull surface of the walls are covered with travertine marble.
In 1972, on the facade of the pavilion was placed decorative relief flora — forged from copper openwork feminine silhouette, decorated with flower arrangements (by the artist Yury Aleksandrov). The elevation is an object of cultural heritage of regional value.
The exposition was dedicated to the achievements in greening organizations, Botanical gardens, design institutes of the Soviet Union and was divided on a territorial basis. In separate rooms were the orangery and kinolektsionny hall. On the Playground next to the pavilion were grown horticultural produce, complement the exhibition.
In 1990-e years the exposition was abolished, launched a shopping arcade. In 2013 opened a school of gardeners and landscape designers. For the last half century in pavilion No. 29 was never repaired. By 2017, the building with total area of more than three thousand square meters was in poor condition. Veneer both outside and inside were chipped and cracked, and sometimes partially lost. Roof slab and supporting beams lost strength have become seriously dilapidated engineering systems.
Now the building is cleaned from the accumulated dirt, removed the chips and dings, and restore lost areas of coating. The facade was treated with a special solution, which protects coating from atmospheric precipitation.
Decorative relief “flora” was also in poor condition. During restoration work it was cleansed from years of mud sediments. On archival photos to re-cast the missing elements. Then a sculpture covered with a patina which does not allow the metal to oxidize or turn yellow, and gives the image traces the historical aging.
In addition, the pavilion replaced 49 of the stained glass Windows of irregular shape. The portals above the entrances and Windows, recreated from old drawings and revived with a travertine — one of the most popular decorative materials, which is made of limestone rocks. Repaired the front porch: rebuilt concrete base and put a new granite tile. Also had a major overhaul of the roof area of more than 2.6 thousand square meters. Special attention was paid to the installation of new support beams. This was used more than 140 tons of metal and produced approximately 12 kilometers of the welds. In addition, completely replaced the ceiling of the roof, made a new screed, insulation and waterproofing. Group skylights — skylights for natural light — of the 16 pieces is also put in order: reinforced construction, made anti-corrosion treatment, replaced fencing panels and stained glass.
One of the decorations of the pavilion are four ornamental pool size from 54 to 230 square meters. Two of them are outside, two inside. Pools completely renovated: re-cast of the bowl, replaced the veneer, nozzles and engineering services. Inside of bowls have posted blue-and-white mosaic, and the parapets lined with marble. In the pool that points to the main entrance, restored the wall, and on it placed the name of the pavilion.
In the exhibition hall and café regained lost areas of coating, removed the chips and dings. On the ceiling of the exhibition hall enshrines the acoustic panel to reduce noise during the event. In both rooms the floors were made of decorative concrete tiles.
In the administrative building repaired the ceilings, walls and ceramic floor corridor and in the rooms laid laminate. The premise of the film lecture hall was renovated and painted walls, the ceiling was fixed acoustic panels and put carpet-covered floor. In the building were replaced with modern systems of water and electricity supply, heating and sanitation, ventilation, and air conditioning and fire alarm system.
Extensive work was completed in November 2019.
After the overhaul, the pavilion “Floriculture and greenery” has retained its historical themes. Department of natural resources and environmental protection of the city of Moscow is preparing for the opening of the exhibition of contemporary landscape architecture of the exposition “Modern flower” that will include interactive multimedia space “butterfly Garden,” dedicated to the butterfly and flowers. It also will house the gardens of the Four seasons — the landscape space with four exhibitions and four thematic art objects. Visitors will be able not only to get acquainted with modern trends in landscaping, but also to relax, enjoying the beauty and fragrance of the plants. In addition, guests will open a holographic movie theater — dimensional holographic show about the amazing plant world, as well as the “House ant”. It will accommodate three layouts with artificial nests, or formicaries where you can get acquainted with the life of numerous families of insects and to visit the area of VR. With the help of special glasses, visitors will have the opportunity to virtually live the life of an ant.
Also in the pavilion is to accommodate the historical exhibition, showroom, café greenhouse, a lecture hall and a cinema. It is planned to re-open a school of landscape design. The reopening of the pavilion “Floriculture and greenery” is planned for December 2020.
Historic landscape and cultural heritage
Landscape Park of the exhibition center covers an area of over 87 hectares. It is a unique recreation complex which includes the historic landscape, cultural heritage and protected areas with innovative developments in the field of gardening landscaping and architecture.
In 2016, a French Studio under the direction of landscape architect Michel Pena prepared the Park’s development, on the basis of which the project was developed, its improvement and adaptation to modern use.
The Park consists of five zones, symbolizing the transition from wild nature to a cultivated man: “Nature is wild, Nature Botanical”, “cultivated Nature”, “Nature of arts and Sciences” and “Nature fun”.
Combines zone and connects with other places of the exhibition is a large walkway with a length of 5.5 kilometers. In 2017 began a large-scale work on the improvement of the Park. The main part was completed in 2019 for the 80th anniversary of the country’s main exhibition.
In the framework of improvement were planted more than 11,500 trees and shrubs, 750 thousand flowers, established about two thousand small architectural forms and 770 illumination poles, constructed 5.5 km of Bicycle lanes. Organized nine playgrounds, six playgrounds for rest and quiet, five multipurpose, one sports and one pop. Infrastructure built 10 temporary pavilions.
24 Jun 2020 ring road ENEA was openly movement of electric buses and taxi, which for the first two weeks have used more than 10 thousand visitors.
One of the ornaments of the landscape Park is “the Big picture fields”, developed by Michel pan and located in the area of “cultivated Nature”. Historically, in this part of the exhibition was located in the experimental fields of various crops and fruit trees.
“The big picture of the fields” is a system of flower beds with a total area of 3.6 thousand square meters, forming a colorful, abstract painting in the spirit of the canvas “Small worlds I” the Soviet avant-garde artist Vasily Kandinsky. Colored fields are raised from the ground, allowing you to appreciate their beauty at eye level of the person. Additional visual effects are created thanks to the wind, at the slightest breath which the painting field comes alive, its canvas has unique dynamics.
“The big picture fields” was opened in 2018 and immediately became the center of attraction of many guests, especially during the flowering plants. In previous years, there blossomed more than 250 thousand tulips.
In the spring of 2020 throughout ENEA flourished 600 thousand tulips, and the “Big picture fields” 258 thousand. To replace annual plants came many years that maintain a color scheme for a long time. And square plots, planted with conifers remain green throughout the year.
On retaining walls, architectural concrete posted wooden decks for sitting. Inside the walls is installed a water-saving system for the best microclimate of the plant root system. Flowering fields are connected by paths made of natural stone.
Another development Michel Pena — landscape attraction “eco-trail”, located in the historic forest Park “Oak grove” — part of Sheremetyevo extensive oak forests.
Here there are pedunculate oaks, whose average age exceeds 150 years, also there are instances of over 200 and 250 years.
Walking route through the ancient oak forest Sheremetyevo length of almost 500 meters passes at altitudes of up to 6.5 meters. For your comfort and constructed a new walking path with lighting. In the evening included architectural lighting.
Eco-trail was opened in September 2019. With good weather on it are more than one thousand people.
The following landscape attraction “Labyrinth”, whose length is about 350 meters. It was opened in July 2018. Its walls are made of four different tree species: Norway spruce, Linden, arborvitae Western, and Apple berry.
Labyrinth consists of 16 green room, in the center of each located trees of umbrella shape. They act as bright accents with decorative colored foliage, unusual bark and lush flowering. According to the concept, the differences in their appearance appeal to certain feelings and emotions: fear, tranquility, love, admiration. As coverage of selected marble chips, sparkling brightly in the sun. Inside the green rooms mood lighting. The projectors create a mesh pattern in a dark time of the day.
The contrast of textures and surfaces, spacious and comfortable pews in the centre of each room, original lighting and decorative lighting “Labyrinth” is perfect for a quiet holiday alone with the nature.
The best view of the third Kamenskiy pond open with a wooden step the observation deck, amphitheatre with an area of 815 square meters. The construction of a viewing platform at the dam between the second and third Kamenskii ponds was completed in late 2018.
During the beautification of the landscape Park cascade Kamensky ponds with a total surface area of 10.3 hectares cleared of dirt and debris for the first time since their construction in 1803, as well as consolidated banks.
Work on cleaning and landscaping of the ponds was completed by the opening of a fountain “Golden ear” in July 2018. Last year there appeared a boat dock, and hydrous Wake Park.
In June 2020, on the first and fourth Kamensky ponds appeared swans mute. This is the largest species among these birds. Your name the swans was due to the loud hissing sounds that they make, defending from predators, protecting their nests.
Now scenic ponds have chosen three pairs of birds aged from three to five years. So the swans could shelter during inclement weather and simply relax, made three floating house.
Another premiere in 2020 in the landscape Park ENEA — two installations created by artists from around the world. Art composition “Birds” Cedric Le Bourne located close to the air ekotropy, and the kinetic sculpture “Armadillo” Anthony Howe — near the pavilion № 38 “Fishing”. In the evening, “Birds” is highlighted.
Development plans for the Park landscape to 2020 is the opening of another landscape attraction “the Mobius Strip”. It is a continuous walking route, stretching over the supporting structure in the form of the infinity sign in the area of “cultivated Nature”.
Length of the route is about 300 meters, and the height of the structure is about eight feet. The Foundation will establish a metal frame, the facades of which are made of metal panels. The attraction will adorn architectural lighting.
Surround “Mobius Strip” will be a garden of the five senses (sight, hearing, smell, touch and taste). In particular, in the garden of the touch planted pines, visitors will experience a pleasant tactile sensation, touching the needles and the bark of trees. In the garden of sounds will grow Linden, birch and poplar. Here guests will hear the noise of leaves and the rustle of grasses and even be able to try the berries from the fruit bushes.
From “Breeding” to the center of the national equestrian traditions
In 1953-1954 on the site of the pavilions of the “Rabbit” and “the Silkworm” was built the three buildings of the exhibition “the Horse” — pavilions No. 40, 41 and 43. They were designed in the style of palladiana and was built by architect M. Titov in the tradition of equestrian manor courts of Russia of XVIII–XIX centuries.
To this complex belonged designed by V. Margulis arena (now the pavilion № 42 “Animal”), which held parades and displays of farm animals, especially horses. The entrance to the arena was decorated with monuments to the horses Square (Orlov Trotter breed) and Character (budennovskaya breed) — winners of the exhibition. The exhibition “the Horse” also includes a small octagonal pavilion-canopy (building 550, now café “Wedding soek”) to demonstrate the camels in the Astrakhan breed.
In each of the three main buildings of the exposition “Horse” exhibited certain breeds: a 40-m — local, 41-m — riding, 43-m, trotting and draft horses. At the exhibition, 1954, was presented to 200 horses of 29 breeds.
Until 90-ies of the last century pavilion No. 41 (ex – “Horse-2”) has kept its historic purpose, was then used as a warehouse or was closed.
Pavilion No. 42 was used as an arena for the display and examination of various animals. In 1967, was renovated, got a new concrete facade and was called “Animal”. Here are held meetings, workshops, livestock breeders, scholars and lovers of domestic animals. Show achievements in the development of breeds. In 1990-e years the building housed an Internet shop and a warehouse of clothes, and occasionally exhibited animals and birds. In the beginning of this century were exhibitions of cats and dogs. In recent years, the building most often been closed or used as warehouse.
Pavilion No. 43 (formerly “Equine-1”) is the only pavilion of the exhibition “the Horse”, which has preserved the historical function until 2018. It housed an equestrian club “Achilles”.
At the beginning of the revival of the exhibition of economic achievements in 2014, all three pavilions were in a poor or dangerous condition. In 2015, the equestrian club “the Kremlin equestrian riding school” proposed to establish on the basis of the historical pavilions of the “Breeding” centre national equestrian traditions. The idea received the support of Sergei Sobyanin.
Its total area will amount to 25.4 thousand square meters. The project is planned in two stages. In the first stage it is planned capital repair of pavilions, landscaping show ring with Seating capacity of 800 seats and the erection of temporary buildings for storage of fodder and walking horses.
The center will house a venue for events, as well as Russia’s first interactive Museum of the horse. There’s also earn two barns with 72 stalls, a place for walking and exercise horse-riding and outdoor horse parade ground area of 4.8 thousand square meters.
