The competition was held in two rounds, in each of which the participants solved three problems.

The results of the 61st International Mathematical Olympiad have been summed up. More than 600 schoolchildren from 105 countries competed for the awards. The Russian national team, which included three Moscow schoolchildren, took second place in the unofficial team competition. Silver medals were won by Anton Sadovnichy from the Second School Lyceum, Ivan Gaidai-Turlov from School No. 57 and Danil Sibgatullin from the Specialized Educational and Scientific Center – Boarding School named after A.N. Kolmogorov Moscow State University.

The team also included guys from St. Petersburg, Krasnodar Territory and Novosibirsk Region. Russian schoolchildren have won two gold and four silver medals. The team was led by Kirill Sukhov, a mathematics teacher at the Presidential Physics and Mathematics Lyceum No. 239 (St. Petersburg), and teachers from the Moscow Center for Excellence Vladimir Bragin and Andrey Kushnir.

The International Mathematical Olympiad was held in a distance format and included two rounds. They took place on September 21 and 22. The participants had 4.5 hours to complete the tasks. Also, online lectures, excursions, and remote entertainment events were held for the teams. The winners were announced on September 28 at the virtual closing ceremony. Participants will receive their awards by mail.

Details and results of the competition are published on the official website.

The scientific director of the Center for Pedagogical Excellence, Ivan Yashchenko, believes that good results indicate a high level of mathematical education in Moscow.

“Success at the Olympiad of this level is, first of all, a huge personal success of a student, the result of his many years of work, the realization of a unique talent. However, if you look at the statistics, then 10 years ago guys from Moscow schools got into the national team sporadically, and now they bring medals to the piggy bank every year. And what is important: the preparation of national teams is not a competition between regions, but joint work not so much for the Olympiad result, but for the development of talents in the interests of Russia, ”said Ivan Yashchenko.

Success at the international Olympiad pushes the children to new victories. Now the school stage of the All-Russian Olympiad is starting, you can also take part in the tournament named after M.V. Lomonosov, join math classes and circles.

The International Mathematical Olympiad has been held since 1959. The competition is held in two rounds with three problems each. The tasks cover different areas of school mathematics, most often geometry, number theory, algebra and combinatorics. The organizer of the Olympiad this year was St. Petersburg. The Olympiad will be held in the same city next year.

In Moscow, much attention is paid to teaching mathematics. On the basis of specialized circles and schools, there is an educational project “Mathematical vertical”. It is aimed at pre-core training in mathematics and related fields.
