A man is without both his car and his licence after being detected driving almost four times the legal blood alcohol limit in Kooyong this morning.

Malvern Police were patrolling the Kooyong area when they intercepted a vehicle on Monaro Road about 8.30am.

The 50-year-old driver returned a positive preliminary breath test before police from Prahran Highway Patrol attended to assist.

Highway patrol officers conducted a roadside evidentiary breath test which yielded a result of 0.192

The Hawthorn man’s licence was immediately suspended and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days at a cost $878.50.

He is expected to be charged on summons with drink driving related offences.

This impound forms part of Operation Saturn, a two-and-a-half-week state-wide road policing operation.

The operation commenced on Thursday, 22 October and aims to prevent further trauma on our roads caused by dangerous driving in both metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria. It focuses on increased traffic on rural roads, drink and drug driving, seatbelt compliance and driving slowly.

Operation Saturn will run from 12.01am on Thursday 22 October to 11.59pm on Sunday 8 November 2020.
