The ceremonial formation and rewarding of the personnel of the United Russian Military Base (ORVB) Kant, stationed in the Republic of Kyrgyzstan, was held in honor of the 17th anniversary of its foundation.

At the ceremonial formation, the base commander, Colonel Alexei Larin, presented the base’s servicemen with state and departmental awards, certificates of honor and letters of thanks. In his congratulatory speech, the base commander praised the professionalism of the personnel, expressed confidence in the preservation of the glorious traditions laid down by the veterans, and wished the servicemen good luck, success in combat training and family well-being. At the end of the event, the personnel of the military base laid flowers at the monument to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War.

The history of the military base began with the Odessa Aviation School of Pilots, formed by order of the People’s Commissar of Defense of the USSR on February 23, 1941. With the outbreak of the Great Patriotic War, the school stopped training, and its cadets began to perform combat missions on I-15 aircraft to cover Odessa from Nazi air strikes. In July 1941, the aviation school was relocated to Stalingrad, and then to the suburbs of the city of Frunze (Bishkek), where military pilots for the front were trained. During the war years, 1507 pilots were trained at the aviation school, 7 of whom were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. After the end of the Great Patriotic War, the school was reorganized into a military aviation school, on the basis of which a training aviation regiment was formed in 1951, in 1956 it began training foreign aviation specialists.

Today ORVB “Kant” is structurally part of the 14th Army of the Air Force and Air Defense of the Central Military District. Military pilots take part in international exercises and the International Army Games “Aviadarts”. The compound is armed with Su-25SM attack aircraft and modernized Mi-8MTV5-1 helicopters. In addition, the Kant military base includes a small and medium-range unmanned aircraft unit equipped with modern multifunctional Orlan-10 UAV systems, a military police and military traffic police unit.
