The crew of the newest Russian warship – the frigate Admiral of the Fleet Kasatonov, performing the tasks of a long voyage in the Mediterranean Sea, completed a business call at the Greek port of Piraeus. Together with the frigate, the rescue tug “Nikolay Chiker” was in the port.

The main purpose of the business call of Russian sailors in Piraeus was to replenish ship and ship supplies, as well as to demonstrate the Russian naval flag.

The call lasted several days, after which the North Sea residents continued to carry out their assigned tasks in the Mediterranean Sea. Earlier, exercises were conducted with the crews to search for submarines and air defense of a detachment of ships.

The current long-distance cruise is the first for the newest Russian frigate. It began with the departure from Severomorsk on December 30, 2020 and is held under the flag of the Chief of Staff of the Northern Fleet’s missile ships formation, Captain 1st Rank Vladislav Malakhovsky. Before the start of the long voyage, all sailors were vaccinated against coronavirus infection with the Russian drug Gam-COVID-Vac (SputnikV).

In the Mediterranean Sea, the frigate will perform a number of military-diplomatic tasks, as well as work out interaction with Russian ships. A number of business calls are planned to the ports of the Mediterranean region. The first of these was a visit to the Algerian People’s Democratic Republic in North Africa.

During the cruise, the frigate “Admiral of the Fleet Kasatonov” and the tugboat “Nikolay Chiker” sailed about 7 thousand nautical miles.
