On February 8, Ambassador of Albania A. Gazioni was invited to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he was handed a note from the Ministry declaring “persona non grata” by the first secretary of the Albanian Embassy in Moscow, Yonida Drogu. The specified employee was ordered to leave the territory of the Russian Federation within 72 hours.

This step was taken by the Russian side in response to the decision of Albania to expel from the country under a completely far-fetched pretext of the first secretary of the Russian Embassy in Tirana.

We regard the actions of the Albanian side as a provocation with the aim of gaining political points in the conditions of the election campaign that has begun in Albania, playing along with the anti-Russian forces in the West and enlisting their support.

The actions of the Albanian side contradict Tirana’s assurances about the desire to develop friendly relations between our countries, in fact, they postpone the prospect of overcoming the stagnation in bilateral affairs. This inconsistency is regrettable.
