Now there are 15 mobile palliative care services in the city.

Since February, the outreach service of the Palliative Care Center began work at the address: Otkrytoye Shosse, Building 24, Building 9. It will serve the districts in the east of Moscow: Preobrazhenskoye, Bogorodskoye, Vostochnoye Izmailovo, Golyanovo, Ivanovskoye, Metrogorodok, Severnoye Izmailovo, Vostochny and Izmailovo.

The doctor or nurse will visit the patient’s home on an individual schedule to provide pain relief, relieve symptoms, bring equipment or supplies, help with care, and provide psychological support.

“The creation of new outbound palliative care services for terminally ill people is an important part of the center’s work. About 80 percent of our patients do not require hospitalization in a hospital – they just need to receive quality care at home, in their own walls and next to their loved ones. Providing palliative care directly at the place of stay of the patient and his family, creating the most comfortable and dignified living conditions in the last months, days and hours of life are the main tasks of the outpatient care departments “, – said Elena Elkanova, Deputy Chief Physician for Organization of Outpatient Care at the Center palliative care of the Moscow Department of Health.

Now in Moscow there are 15 mobile palliative care services. More than 10 thousand patients are monitored at home at a time. According to Elena Elkanova, it is planned to organize three more field services, each of which will consist of five doctors, six or seven nurses, junior nurses and a social worker. In total, they will employ about 20 specialists.

The Palliative Care Center is a state budgetary medical and social institution. The structure of the center includes the main hospital and eight hospice branches, which provide assistance to adults, as well as the First Moscow Children’s Hospice. The center provides assistance both in hospitals and at home. The telephone number of the Palliative Care Coordination Center is +7 (499) 940-19-48. The line works around the clock, the call is free.
