Divers of the rescue squad of the Baltic naval base during the exercise performed underwater work in winter conditions.

Within the framework of the event, the detachment’s specialists carried out a number of underwater technical works – inspecting the hulls of surface ships, examining the seabed, and performed underwater repair work to restore the tightness of the ship’s hull, which received a conditional hole.

Descent under the ice through a lane specially cut through it is considered one of the most difficult types of diving training.

During the underwater work, special attention was paid to the safety of divers, the work was carried out in difficult ice conditions, the ice thickness at the base of the ships reaches 20-25 centimeters. Also, when descending under water in conditions of low temperatures, measures were taken to prevent the formation of ice plugs in the hose connections, freezing of the breathing and etching valves of diving equipment.

To provide diving descents, a multifunctional rescue boat of project 23370 was used, equipped in a diving version with a pressure chamber and a team of medical specialists on board.

Adjustment of the performance of tasks by divers was carried out using an underwater miniature remote-controlled unmanned vehicle.
