The Russian Federation remains the main economic partner of the Republic of Tajikistan. For 11 months of 2020, the volume of mutual trade amounted to 740.8 million US dollars. According to Oleksiy Overchuk, further efforts should be made to strengthen trade and economic cooperation. Cooperation in the field of agricultural engineering, automotive engineering, power engineering and high technologies was noted as the most promising areas of industry. The Deputy Prime Minister announced the readiness of the Russian side to expand the range of supplies of modern high-performance agricultural machinery and equipment with the involvement of leasing programs and modern instruments of Russian export agencies in projects.
The sphere of information and communication technologies was named as a promising area of Russian-Tajik cooperation.
“Russian IT companies are interested in establishing contacts with the Tajik side and are ready to offer advanced solutions, primarily in the field of e-government, smart and safe cities, information security, as well as in areas that are becoming increasingly important in the context of a pandemic – digital distance education and telemedicine. “, – stressed Alexey Overchuk.
As part of cooperation in the field of ensuring the sanitary and epidemiological well-being of the population, the parties agreed to visit the Republic of Tajikistan by specialists of the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Well-being in order to assess the epidemiological situation and prepare a report for consideration at the operational headquarters to prevent the importation and spread of the new coronavirus. infections on the territory of the Russian Federation. The Tajik side was shown the work of the application “Traveling without COVID-19” and it was proposed to consider the possibility of joining this application in order to ensure the entry of citizens of Tajikistan into the territory of the Russian Federation.
The sides identified humanitarian cooperation between Russia and Tajikistan as an important component of the complex of bilateral relations. Currently, more than 29 thousand citizens of Tajikistan are studying in Russian universities, of which about 15 thousand – at the expense of the federal budget and 14 thousand – under agreements on education at the expense of individuals and legal entities. Since 2017, a project has been successfully implemented to ensure the work of Russian teachers in schools of the republic.
“Significant work has been done to implement the agreements of the presidents of Russia and Tajikistan on the construction of schools in the Republic of Tajikistan with instruction in Russian. At this stage, it is important to secure the conditions for their functioning by an appropriate intergovernmental agreement, including in terms of educational activities based on Russian educational standards, which will provide an opportunity for Tajik citizens to receive education in accordance with the best Russian educational practices, ”said Alexei Overchuk.
The parties also noted the importance of developing cooperation in the field of migration and agreed to continue contacts in order to optimize the provision of state services to labor migrants from Tajikistan, necessary to enter the Russian Federation and carry out labor activities.
A significant potential for the development of bilateral relations was noted in the field of culture. During 2020, multi-format online projects were successfully implemented and face-to-face events were held. Particular attention was paid to the support of the State Russian Drama Theater. V. “A number of priority and very important projects are planned for 2021 in the field of cultural and humanitarian interaction. Among them are the Days of Russian Culture and the Week of Russian Cinema in Tajikistan. Such areas as energy, development of the agro-industrial complex and humanitarian cooperation were named as promising areas of interregional cooperation. The annual conference on interregional cooperation between Russia and Tajikistan has become an effective tool for further expanding cooperation at the regional level.
Following the meeting, the Protocol of the 17th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Tajikistan was signed.
