In the Kaliningrad region, temperatures were abnormally low for this time of year. Active ice formation began in the areas of basing of ships and vessels of the Baltic Fleet. To ensure the fulfillment of the planned tasks of combat training in Baltiysk, the ships of the auxiliary fleet began breaking ice at the bases of ships and vessels of the Baltic naval base.

The accumulation of ice and its compaction in places up to twenty centimeters in military harbors occurred as a result of severe cold weather that lasts for a week, which can affect the safety of anchorage and navigation of ships and vessels.

The task of breaking ice was assigned to new generation harbor tugs. Due to their excellent maneuverability and technical capabilities, they are able to break ice up to 50 cm almost to the side of the ship and safely maneuver between ships.

It is planned that in order to ensure the safety of anchorage of ships and submarines in Baltiysk until the end of the cold season, up to five tugs of the BF auxiliary fleet will make daily trips to break ice and escort ships and warships to the Kaliningrad Sea Canal.
