NPO employees will acquire basic applied skills in sociology and analytics, which are necessary for the development of effective social projects.
A network of coworking centers, together with the Center for Evaluation of Public Initiatives of the Higher School of Economics (HSE), is launching a course “Applied Research and Working with Data for NGOs”. Any non-profit organization (NPO) in Moscow can enroll in the course by sending applicationuntil March 10.
Over the course of a month, employees of non-profit organizations will learn to conduct their own sociological research in order to better understand the needs of their wards, the motives of volunteers and develop projects based on the obtained data. The seven-unit course will cover a wide range of practical skills in questionnaires, telephone interviews, focus groups, and other ways to study opinions. From March 18 to the end of April, course participants will undergo online training and receive certificates of successful graduation.
“Most often, NGOs say that they would like to improve their efficiency, and for this it is necessary to collect accurate data on work and analyze it. The training course, which we are organizing together with the HSE for the third time, provides the necessary knowledge and skills to search, understand and work with data at the level of basic analytics, and also teaches us to independently conduct applied research aimed at solving specific problems of NGOs, ”noted Pavel Simakov, head of the network of coworking centers of non-profit organizations.
Classes will be conducted by Yulia Skokova, Irina Krasnopolskaya and Irina Korneeva, researchers from the Center for Evaluation of Public Initiatives of the Institute for Applied Political Research at the Higher School of Economics. As part of the course, students will also be able to hear the opinions of competent specialists about their research projects.
“The cross-cutting theme of our course is the creation of their own research project, which students will develop based on the needs of their organization, and we will help and advise them in this. It is important for us that those who are motivated and who have already formed a request for applied research come to the course, who understand that data will help to better build a strategy for the development of an organization, but do not know how to collect, interpret and, most importantly, use them. During the course, we will tell you how to define the objectives of applied research, what are the main methods of collecting and analyzing data, and also practice the skills of formulating questions, ”said Yulia Skokova, Director of the Center for Evaluating Public Initiatives at the Institute for Applied Political Research at the Higher School of Economics.
