The sergeants of the artillery unit of the 58th combined-arms army of the Southern Military District at the Tarskoye training ground covered the enemy with volley fire during the first stage of the field training competition among junior commanders named after Hero of the Soviet Union, full holder of the Order of Glory, gun commander Petty Officer Nikolai Kuznetsov.

At the first stage of the competition, servicemen fulfilled a set of standards for tactical, special, technical, firepower and physical training. The junior commanders demonstrated their skills in shooting from the AK-74M Kalashnikov assault rifle and in controlling artillery fire, taking into account the adjustment of Orlan-10 unmanned aerial vehicles.

Obligatory exercise of the competition was the defeat of observed and unobserved targets by shooting from closed firing positions from 152-mm towed Msta-B howitzers and 122-mm self-propelled howitzers Gvozdika regimental howitzers.

In total, over 200 rounds of artillery and mortar rounds were fired during the competition.

For reference: The competition of artillerymen is dedicated to the participant of the Great Patriotic War, Hero of the Soviet Union, full cavalier of the Order of Glory, gun commander Sergeant Major Kuznetsov Nikolai Ivanovich.

Sergeant Major Kuznetsov, commanding the 76-mm divisional gun ZiS-3 in the period from 1941 to 1945, destroyed 11 German tanks as part of the crew, suppressed dozens of enemy firing points.
