To eliminate possible failures, emergency teams are on duty.

The entire city energy system is operating normally despite heavy snowfall, said the Deputy Mayor of Moscow in the Government for Housing and Communal Services and Improvement Petr Biryukov

“The entire city energy system – supply of heat, energy, gas, water – is operating normally. There are reserves, there are capacities. Emergency services are working in order to prevent any emergency shutdowns, emergency failures with the supply of necessary resources to life support facilities, ”he said.

The past snowfall has become one of the strongest in recent years. Within a day and a half, about 30 centimeters of snow fell. Its cleaning is complicated by the wind with gusts of up to 20 meters per second, as well as severe frosts for Moscow.

About 1.1 million cubic meters of snow have been removed from city streets per day. Work continues around the clock. About 60 thousand people are involved in snow removal, 13.5 thousand pieces of equipment are working. Also, since February 13, about 12 thousand employees of engineering companies have been additionally involved with their special equipment – GBU “Gormost”, GUP “Mosvodostok”, JSC “Moskollektor”, JSC “OEK”, JSC “Mosgaz” and others.

How quickly the city will be cleaned during abnormal snowfalls

The amount of precipitation directly affects the timing of snow removal. In order to completely remove 10 centimeters of snow from major roads and streets, three days are given, and for every five centimeters above this norm, utilities are given an additional day.

In yards, snow up to five centimeters according to the standards should be taken out in five days, but if up to 10 centimeters of snow falls, then the time increases to seven days.

Snow is taken to snow-melting stations or special temporary storage sites located in industrial zones away from residential buildings.
