At the Novorossiysk Naval Base (NVMB), the crew of the diesel-electric submarine (pl) Veliky Novgorod of the Black Sea Fleet (Black Sea Fleet) conducted an exercise to combat fire and water ingress in emergency compartments.

According to the legend of the exercise, while the submarine was parked at the quay wall at the basing point in two compartments of the submarine, a conditional fire and the flow of sea water occurred simultaneously.

During the exercise on the fight for survivability on the Veliky Novgorod submarine, an emergency alert was played, the personnel of the emergency crews began to take measures to eliminate the sources of fire and flooding.

The divers fulfilled the standards for putting on personal protective equipment, sealing the emergency compartment, creating lines of defense, localizing and extinguishing a fire in the compartment, placing plasters and sliding stops on holes.

Damage control training is an obligatory element of combat training for the crews of submarines and surface ships of the Black Sea Fleet.
