A boxing championship was held in the Northern Fleet. The competition took place as part of the 87th naval sports festival and took three days. They were attended by 54 athletes from the main associations, formations and units of the fleet.

All the fights were held at the Arochny sports complex in the main base of the Northern Fleet – the city of Severomorsk. The final took place on Saturday 13 February.

The strongest fighters were determined in each of ten weight categories. There were four winners each – medals for the third place were received at once by two losing semi-finalists.

The champion in the first flyweight – up to 49 kilograms – was a representative of the army corps of the Northern Fleet Ivan Mongul-Ool. In the next weight category up to 52 kg. the first place was taken by Arthur Tinkov, who played for the command of the Air Force and Air Defense Army “Groza”. Lightweight up to 56 kg. Sergei Sokolin, a serviceman of a separate company for escorting military cargo, won, and in lightweight (up to 60 kg.) – another representative of the “Groza” Pavel Borisov. Among middleweight athletes: up to 64, up to 69 and up to 75 kilograms, the title of champion was won by the Marine Darkhan Dosanov and two aviation representatives Salman Kerimov and Vladimir Kolchin.

An exciting and dramatic final took place in the light heavyweight division (up to 81 kg.). Representatives of the “Armata” teams of the army corps and “Thunderstorm” of the Air Force and Air Defense Forces fought for the “gold”. In the first round, Marine Magomedgadzhi Hasanov almost sent his opponent Pavel Ivanov to the ring floor. However, he not only managed to move away from the knockdown, but also won a strong-willed victory.

Among the heavyweights, the champions were representatives of “Armata” Andrey Volkov (up to 91 kg.) And Ramazan Gadzhimuradov.

The team of the Air Force and Air Defense Association of the Northern Fleet “Groza” won the team championship, whose boxers took one bronze, four silver and five gold medals. The second place was taken by the team of the army corps “Armata”, which made up a worthy competitor to the “Thunderstorm” – their fighters met in six out of ten final fights. In third place is the Albatross team of the Kola Flotilla of diverse forces, whose boxers only managed to reach the semifinals.

The prize-winners were awarded by the commander of the Air Force and Air Defense Army of the Northern Fleet, Lieutenant General Aleksandr Otroshchenko.
