The calculations of the Buk-M1 anti-aircraft missile system (SAM) of the combined arms formation of the Central Military District (TsVO) repulsed a group air strike of a simulated enemy on a military equipment convoy and a railway station during an exercise in Altai Territory.

According to the plan of the exercise, the enemy planned to inflict a missile and air strike on a convoy of military equipment marching to the loading station. Cover for motorized rifle and tank units was provided by the calculations of the Buk-M1 air defense system. Arriving at the destination, the operators of the 9S18M1-3 Kupol target detection radar detected a simulated enemy assault air group at a distance of more than 130 km, consisting of various types of aircraft. Anti-aircraft gunners took targets for escort, captured them, and then destroyed the aircraft without consuming ammunition. During the exercise, the servicemen worked out more than 10 missions to repel an air raid in conditions of intense influence of the “enemy” electronic warfare means.

More than 500 servicemen took part in the exercise, about 40 units of military and special equipment were involved.

The combined arms formation of the Central Military District is deployed in the Novosibirsk, Kemerovo, Omsk, Tyumen, Irkutsk regions, Altai Territory and the Republic of Tyva. It includes motorized rifle, artillery formations, air defense troops, RChBZ and communications.
