Servicemen of the Marine Corps of the Troops and Forces in the North-East of Russia conducted preventive shelling of mountain slopes in avalanche-prone areas of the Kamchatka Peninsula.

The shelling was carried out in agreement with the Kamchatka regional anti-avalanche center to take control of avalanches and ensure the safety of residents of the regional center, as well as elements of the energy system of the Kamchatka Territory.

The calculation of the 120-mm mortar “Sani”, operating in the area of the highway settlement Termalny – Vilyuchinsky pass, used about 30 minutes in order to cause a controlled descent of snow masses from the slopes of Vilyuchinsky volcano in areas exceeding 200 hectares. The points for striking were chosen in accordance with the recommendations of the specialists of the anti-avalanche center.

As a result of the joint work, it was found that the snow cover on the slopes of the volcano is stable and currently does not pose a great danger.
