On February 17, the fuel service of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation celebrated its 85th anniversary.

The fuel and lubricants service was formed in 1936 together with the mass motorization of the Red Army and Navy. Wherever domestic military equipment was used in the interests of the state, this service guaranteed to provide the fuel needs of the troops in various conditions of the situation. One of the youngest in the system of material and technical support of troops (forces), it is also one of the most important.

At present, in the Russian Armed Forces, units and subunits of the constant readiness fuel service are able to provide troops (forces) with the necessary fuel in a short time. In particular, a separate pipeline battalion within five days can deploy a line of a field main pipeline with a length of 150 km and supply up to 1000 tons of fuel per day. Pipeline military units and subunits are able to provide troops (forces) with fuel by connecting (inserting) into the main oil product pipelines.

The fuel service is always at the forefront of providing troops and forces during various exercises and maneuvers. For example, during the march, only one ATZ-12-10 tanker based on the KamAZ vehicle, the most unique of its kind and nicknamed “octopus”, is able to refuel an entire tank company to full tanks in just 10 minutes!

Refueling helicopters in the field, receiving fuel from Rosrezerv plants into tank cars, ensuring launches of spacecraft, refueling with rocket fuel components of Strategic Missile Forces complexes, inserting into main oil product pipelines – there are no impossible tasks for fuel service!

The fuel service successfully copes with tasks not only on the ground, but literally in the air. Refueling in the sky from a flying tanker to carry out missions with fighter, bomber or long-range aviation aircraft at a considerable distance from their bases is not a problem for service either day or night.

Highly qualified specialists for the fuel service that meet modern requirements are being trained today at the Military Academy of Logistics named after General of the Army A.V. Khrulyov in St. Petersburg, its Volsk branch, as well as at the Military Training Center at the Russian State University of Oil and Gas named after I.M. Gubkin and at the military faculty of the Kazan National Research Technological University. All these universities are the flagships of national technical education!

The Fuel Service is one of the flagships of logistics, capable of uninterruptedly providing troops and forces with high-quality fuel and rocket fuel in all types of combat operations and exercises.
