Co-chairs of the organizing committee of the IX Nevsky International Ecological Congress Chairman of the Federation Council, Chairman of the Council of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly Valentina Matvienko and Deputy Prime Minister Victoria Abramchenko held its first meeting.

The event is planned to be held in a full-time and part-time format, subject to all sanitary and epidemiological measures on May 27-28, 2021 at the IPA CIS site in the Tauride Palace in St. Petersburg. Its main topic will be “Ecology of the planet – sustainable development”.

“Ecology is becoming the most important element of both world and domestic politics in many states. There are enough problems in the field of ecology. At the same time, Russia has accumulated significant positive experience in solving them, ”said Valentina Matvienko. She urged to look for non-standard approaches, to involve representatives of science, leading experts, business: “This is precisely one of the main tasks of our congress”.

Valentina Matvienko recalled that, following the recommendations of previous congresses, federal laws were adopted, aimed, in particular, at setting quotas for atmospheric emissions and developing a system for safe waste management.

The head of the Federation Council is confident that the upcoming forum will preserve such a practical approach and will have a positive impact on the situation in the field of ecology both in Russia and in the partner states: biological diversity. All these global issues require comprehensive study, deep study and the broadest possible discussion in society. “

In turn, Deputy Prime Minister Viktoria Abramchenko noted that climate and ecology are topics that are above politics. “They have a cross-border nature and, of course, should not be an instrument of trade wars and sanctions of one state against another. Therefore, it would be nice to discuss such an international negotiating aspect from the point of view of the climate agenda on the sidelines of this congress, ”she commented, stating that the issue of the Russian Federation’s climate policy, answers within the framework of the ratification of the Paris Agreement should be one of the key topics of the forum.

In the substantive agenda of the upcoming congress, Victoria Abramchenko proposed to include the discussion of five priority projects, activities in the field of ecology and climate, which are discussed within the framework of the new Strategy for the socio-economic development of the Russian Federation until 2030 and may meet the achievement of one of the national goals “Comfortable and safe environment for life “.

As the Deputy Prime Minister said, such projects include General Cleaning (implementation of fundamentally new approaches to eliminating accumulated environmental damage), Closed Cycle Economy (creation of a system for involving secondary material resources into circulation and a multiple reduction in the formation of solid household and industrial waste), “Green city and a comfortable village” (creation of environmentally friendly living conditions) – a project dictated by rapidly changing, including due to the pandemic, needs of society.

Victoria Abramchenko noted that the development of ecological tourism and biodiversity, effective use of forest land, hunting as a traditional area of ​​employment for the rural population and people in forest villages are united under the project “Our Nature”. And the final project is related to the new Russian climate policy and the achievement of carbon neutrality.

As part of her speech, the Deputy Prime Minister proposed to provide for interactive and environmental hackathons on the sidelines of the forum: “This would also be useful in terms of attracting foreign partners, exchanging technologies and improving practices, environmental education.”

Without changing the attitude in society towards environmental issues, rational consumption, it is impossible to achieve the goals that we face, the Deputy Prime Minister summed up.
