In the Murmansk region, regular training flights took place with the crews of the shipborne fighter aviation regiment of the Air Force and Air Defense Army of the Northern Fleet. They passed from the Severomorsk-3 airfield as part of a tactical flight exercise.

During the flight shift, the crews of the Su-33 carrier-based fighters worked out piloting and navigation techniques when performing elements of complex and aerobatics at medium and high altitudes, as well as conducting short-range maneuverable air combat at low and extremely low altitudes.

12 young and experienced pilots were involved in the flights. There were up to five combat vehicles in the air at the same time. In total, the pilots made about 20 sorties. The total flight time of the fighters was more than 10 hours.

The flights were carried out in low temperatures, which imposed an additional burden not only on the flight crew and the flight management team directly involved in the flight shift, but also on the aviation engineering service, which provides ground training of aviation equipment and the readiness of the runway.
