Young pilots of the army aviation of the Central Military District – graduates of 2020 for the first time launched missile strikes on the positions of a simulated enemy during an exercise at an air range in the Kurgan Region.

The crews of the Mi-8 transport and combat helicopters flew to the area of ​​the alleged concentration of enemy forces, worked out issues of air navigation, aerial reconnaissance, determining the coordinates of targets and inflicting fire damage. During the reconnaissance, the exact coordinates of the mock enemy were established. For the first time, young pilots – graduates of 2020 carried out combat launches of S-8 unguided air-to-surface missiles. The crews moved at extremely low altitudes of up to 50 meters, performed maneuvers to evade air defense means. After visual detection of targets imitating lightly armored enemy vehicles, helicopter crews launched unguided aircraft missiles and destroyed targets with cannon armament.

The exercise involved up to 10 Mi-8 transport and combat helicopters, about 50 units of ground equipment, more than 200 military personnel from among the flight, engineering and technical personnel, the control and flight support group.
