Russian motorized rifle units of the 201st military base, stationed in Tajikistan, defeated a mock enemy in a meeting engagement.

At the Lyaur training ground, the servicemen marched to the exercise area, where they worked out the tasks of fortifying firing positions. The commanders of combined arms units organized interaction with units of military intelligence, artillery, radiation, chemical, biological protection, and electronic warfare.

During the main stage of the exercise, motorized riflemen defeated the vanguard of the mock enemy in a meeting engagement, seized the initiative and surrounded his grouping. To destroy the main forces of the “enemy”, 122-mm self-propelled artillery mounts “Gvozdika” and 120-mm towed mortar complexes “Sani” were used. Guidance and adjustment of artillery fire was carried out by scouts from observation posts. In the final phase of the exercise, motorized riflemen on armored personnel carriers BTR-82A, reinforced with T-72 tanks, drove the scattered forces of the “enemy” out of their positions. In the course of the offensive battle, the issues of combat, logistical and medical support were also worked out.

More than 500 servicemen and over 80 pieces of weapons and military equipment were involved in the two-day exercise.

The 201st military base stationed in Tajikistan is Russia’s largest military facility outside its borders. Located in two cities – Dushanbe and Bokhtar. It includes motorized rifle, tank, artillery, reconnaissance units, air defense units, RCB protection and communications.
