Mortar batteries of the motorized rifle formation of the Eastern Military District (VVO), stationed in the border town of Kyakhta of the Republic of Buryatia, began one of the most difficult types of fire of artillery units – counter-battery firing.

A feature of the training was the development of an accurate and quick selection of firing positions, taking into account the natural terrain, which hides the unit from visual, sound reconnaissance means and lenses of unmanned aerial vehicles of a conventional enemy.

At the firing stage, the commanders of the mortar batteries carry out the shooting of the enemy’s artillery systems with the help of the Zoo reconnaissance stations and concentrated fire from the Sani mortars with 120-mm high-explosive shells with an air fuse hit targets imitating the anti-tank guns of a conventional enemy.

Also, to complicate the performance of firing tasks, battery commanders are given various inputs, such as determining the direction and distance to the target by a cloud of dust and bursts of shots in the dark. In addition, the mortar men practice the tasks of artillery support of tank subunits while conducting mobile defense.

The trainings take place as part of the planned intensive combat training. About 100 servicemen took part in combat training events and over 20 units of military and special equipment were involved.
