Correctional colony No. 3 of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in the Omsk Region became the field of the final duel among professional cooks from among the convicts. At the first stage of the “Battle of Cooks” competition, correctional institutions of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in the Omsk Region held a competition for the best cook. According to the results of the qualifying stage, the masters representing correctional colonies No. 3, 9 and 12 became the finalists of the culinary duel.
In the final of the Battle of the Cooks, the participants had to complete difficult tasks: they had to cook the national salad “Olivier” according to the classic Soviet recipe and a hearty second dish. The participants had to comply with a number of requirements: to use a set of foodstuffs permitted in correctional institutions, but, at the same time, the prepared dishes must correspond to the restaurant cuisine menu.
All finalists were on an equal footing: they were given the same set of products and the same amount of time to prepare their meals.
The jury, which included professional culinary specialists from among the employees of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in the Omsk region, had to evaluate the work of the contestants according to the following criteria: the appearance of the participants, the taste of the dishes, the combination of ingredients, adherence to the cooking technology and design of the finished dish, as well as the originality of serving and filing.
After an hour and a half, the participants presented their culinary masterpieces to the jury. It was not an easy task to choose the best of the best, but, nevertheless, the jury distributed the places as follows: the third place went to the convict from IK-9, the second place – IK-3. The winner of the “Battle of the Cooks” was a convict from IK-12.
“The purpose of our competition, in addition to the cultural and aesthetic education of convicts, is to improve their professional skills and develop creative abilities. I am sure that such events in the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in the Omsk Region will henceforth become traditional and regular, ”said Natalya Zaikova, deputy head of correctional colony No. 3.
