The Ermak Special Purpose Department of the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service for the Krasnoyarsk Territory was created on February 20, 1991 by order of the Chief of the Internal Affairs Directorate.

The tasks of the special-purpose department include the prevention and suppression of crimes and offenses at the FSIN facilities, the search and capture of especially dangerous criminals, security at special events, the release of hostages taken by convicts, as well as the protection of senior officials of the department, participation in anti-terrorist operations.

According to the head of the Main Directorate of the Federal Penitentiary Service, Colonel of the Internal Service Anatoly Savchenko, over three decades, “Ermak” has become a powerful unit, ready to perform any tasks.

– In any army and in any conflict, a special purpose department is an “emergency reserve” for solving the most difficult, almost impossible tasks. Service in special forces means hard training, night rises on alarm, long business trips. Mutual assistance, a sense of a reliable shoulder of a comrade – these are integral parts of the moral character of a special forces soldier, – said Colonel Savchenko.

Currently, the department is staffed with highly professional officers, equipped with modern weapons, and has its own sports training base. The training of OSN fighters is carried out according to a special program, which includes: classes on an obstacle course, practicing hand-to-hand combat techniques, fire and tactical-special training, assault training using mountaineering equipment, as well as various psychological trainings.

Their colleagues and the leadership of the Main Directorate, veterans of the UIS, friends and relatives came to congratulate the special forces on the holiday. The festive event took place on the territory of the escort department of the GUFSIN. On this day, according to tradition, in memory of the employees who died in the line of duty, employees of the Yermak special purpose department and guests laid flowers at the memorial in their memory and honored the officers’ feat with a minute of silence.

Colonel Andrey Likhtin, first deputy chief of the GUFSIN, presented the best special forces fighters with departmental certificates of honor, letters of thanks and anniversary medals.

Valery Bedov, deputy chairman of the Krasnoyarsk regional public organization Center for military-patriotic education “Vympel-Krasnoyarye”, presented the staff of the OSN with gratitude for their contribution to the development of civil and patriotic education of the younger generation.

The event ended with a meeting of staff with veterans of the penal system, which took place in an informal setting.
