In the Nizhny Novgorod region at the Mulino training ground, servicemen of a separate tank brigade of the Guards Tank Red Banner Army of the Western Military District conducted tank firing from 125-mm cannons and coaxial Kalashnikov tank machine guns.

The servicemen fired from smooth-bore 125-mm guns at targets simulating armored vehicles, and hit 87% of the targets. The machine gunners fired at targets simulating the calculation of grenade launchers. An increased rate of fire and a time limit for shots became a feature of the shooting. These conditions were set to increase the number of rounds per minute and improve crew coherence.

The targets were located at a distance of 1200 to 1800 meters from the line of fire. The conditions for firing became more difficult due to cloudy weather and light fog. Insufficient visibility did not prevent the gunners from aiming the guns.

More than 50 units of military equipment and more than 200 servicemen of a separate tank brigade of the ZVO Guards Tank Army took part in the shooting.
