The service was conducted by Archpriest Alexander Soldatenkov, Keeper of the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ. The icon of the Holy Great Martyr George the Victorious will be placed in the church on a permanent basis.

For reference; The Great Martyr George the Victorious is one of the most revered saints among Christians around the world. He suffered during the Great Persecution under the Emperor Diocletian and after eight days of grievous torture, during which he did not cease to glorify God, he was beheaded. Having endured especially heavy suffering for Christ, George is numbered among the great martyrs and, as the victor in the spiritual battle, is called the Victorious. In Ancient Russia, a special veneration of holy warriors arose immediately after the adoption of Christianity. The military theme in Christianity was felt and demanded by the state, which was constantly under the threat of raids by nomadic tribes. Russian princes in baptism took the names of holy warriors, especially George and Demetrius, entrusting themselves and their principality to their prayers and intercession.

In the iconography, two images of St. George are clearly visible: a humble great martyr, on the one hand, and on the other, a formidable warrior. In the role of the latter, Saint George began to be revered as the patron angel, first of all, of the army, and later of the state as a whole, of the peoples of Russia, families and children. From ancient times to the present day, George the Victorious is the patron saint of the army and navy. Prayer before his image helps those who are in military service. Saint George also protects their families.

The day of memory of the holy Great Martyr the Victorious George was the main

Holiday of the Russian Army. Exclusively for military bravery, privates and non-commissioned officers were awarded the St.George crosses of 4 degrees. Officers and generals were awarded with gold “Georgievsky” weapons with the inscription: “For courage.” Over the years, the martyrdom and at the same time the heroic content of the sublime image of St. George has become even closer to us: the horseman George, slaying the snake, has become the coat of arms of Moscow and the symbol of the Russian state is gradually opening previously closed churches in his honor; temple on Poklonnaya Hill.
