Today at 21 o’clock local time in Victory Park behind the memorial to 1200 soldiers-guards in Kaliningrad will be given a festive salute from 30 artillery salvoes.

The salute will be made by servicemen of the self-propelled howitzer artillery battalion of the guards motorized rifle regiment of the army corps of the Baltic Fleet. The salute division is equipped with 105 and 125 mm salute and fireworks installations, which are fully automated and controlled at the touch of a button. With their help, fireworks will be launched into the sky of Kaliningrad to a height of 500 meters.

In addition to fireworks installations, the battalion is armed with ZIS-3 anti-tank guns of the Great Patriotic War, which are used for blank firing when launching fireworks shots. In total, the festive salute will involve the calculations of three salute installations producing volleys of fireworks and three artillery crews of the 76-mm ZIS-3 divisional cannons, which were put into service in 1943 and participated in the assault on Konigsberg. Now these cannons, which are still in service, carry out the sound accompaniment of fireworks, thanks to the characteristic, abrupt sound emitted when fired.
