On February 23, in Pskov, at the monument in honor of the first victories of the Red Army, a solemn meeting and parade of the troops of the Pskov garrison took place. The solemn event was held with the participation of representatives of the regional and municipal authorities, the Pskov Regional Assembly of Deputies, members of patriotic clubs, servicemen of the Pskov garrison, including employees and cadets of the Pskov branch of the Academy of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia, veterans and residents of the city, who honored the memory of the fallen defenders of the Motherland by laying garlands on the stele Glory and flowers.

The Governor of the Pskov Region Mikhail Vedernikov presented the servicemen with medals and orders for their high performance in service, two cadets of the Pskov branch of the Academy of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia Yuri Smirnov and Anna Sharina were awarded letters of thanks and valuable gifts from the Administration of the Pskov Region.

The ceremonial crews of the Pskov branch of the Academy of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia, headed by the head of the educational organization Dmitry Panarin, along with other formations and units of the Pskov garrison marched in front of the monument, which on that day gathered a large number of honored guests.

Recall that the monument in Kresty, which traditionally hosts celebrations in honor of the Defender of the Fatherland Day, is famous for its history. On these lines, near Pskov and Narva, in 1918, the first detachments of the Red Army stopped the German troops rushing to Petrograd. They defended the young republic, continuing the traditions of defending the Fatherland by our ancestors. The monument was opened on February 23, 1968.
