In the Primorsky Territory, a major exercise of artillery units of the combined-arms army of the Eastern Military District was completed, in which more than 1,200 servicemen and about 300 pieces of equipment were involved.
During the exercise, which took place at three combined-arms training grounds of the Air Defense Forces, 152-mm self-propelled guns 2S5 “Hyacinth-S” and 152-mm self-propelled artillery mounts 2S3 “Akatsiya” destroyed objects and armored vehicles of the advancing “enemy”, which were imitated by full-size targets. Targets that were on the reverse slopes of the hills and were inaccessible to direct fire were struck by 240-mm self-propelled mortars 2S4 “Tulip”.
In addition, during the exercise, the Uragan and Grad MLRS divisions inflicted a fire strike on targets and critical fire weapons of the advancing “enemy” at a distance of over 20 km. The calculations of the systems took no more than a minute to unleash several dozen rockets on the mock enemy.
The crews of unmanned aircraft, together with artillery units, completed the tasks of finding a simulated enemy and adjusting artillery fire. The coordinates of targets and visualization of fire damage in real time were transmitted to the artillery control point.
During the exercise, the crews of the UAVs “Orlan-10” and “Eleron-3” were in the air for several hours at altitudes of up to 1000 meters, having flown a total of over 1300 km.
Moreover, about a dozen Ka-52 attack helicopters of the army aviation of the Air Force and Air Defense Association were involved in the exercises, which provided fire support to the units by launching unguided rockets.
During the exercise, the personnel completed more than 30 fire missions with live fire. In practice, the servicemen worked out the destruction of a simulated enemy in order to hold the specified area and create conditions for further actions of the main forces.
