The servicemen of the International Mine Action Center of the RF Armed Forces during humanitarian demining in the area of the Thonghaihin airfield of the Xienghuang province (Lao People’s Democratic Republic) found more than 690 explosive ordnance (EOM).

The personnel of the demining detachment carry out the search, identification and designation of explosive objects, and also determine the degree of danger of each signal received from the search means.

Sappers of the Lao People’s Army U-58 demining detachment carry out the destruction of the found ammunition, both at the detection sites and at specialized training grounds.

A feature of demining in this area is the occurrence of detectable ammunition at a depth of 1.7 meters, as well as a large number of ferromagnetic elements, which significantly complicates the search and identification of GPs.

The explosive items found by Russian sappers are of the American-made BLU-26, BLU-63 and BLU-3B cluster bombs, as well as artillery ammunition of various calibers.

Specialists of the Russian demining detachment use domestic modern means of search, detection and protection (induction mine detector IMP-3, deep metal detector MG-1I, magnetometric bomb detector MBI-P2 and subsurface detector PPO-2I).

In order to fulfill the decision of the President of the Russian Federation – the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, a demining detachment of the International Mine Action Center of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in the amount of 32 servicemen was sent to the Lao People’s Democratic Republic to assist in the demining of the country’s territory. This is the third mission of Russian servicemen from the mine action center to the Lao People’s Democratic Republic.
