The crews of the Ka-27 anti-submarine helicopters from the Air Force and Air Defense Army of the Northern Fleet conducted scheduled training flights to search for a submarine at combat training ranges in the Barents Sea.

One of the submarines of the Northern Fleet was involved in the training as a mock enemy.

In the course of the flights, tactical methods of searching for a submarine, tracking it using radio and hydroacoustic means of detecting underwater targets were worked out.

Also, as part of pairs of helicopters, naval pilots performed flight missions for flight crews. Flights took place in the daytime and at night.

The difficult meteorological conditions of the Arctic, strong winds reaching 25 meters per second and a blizzard did not affect the fulfillment of the tasks assigned to the crews of anti-submarine helicopters.

In total, 8 Ka-27 helicopters were involved in the flights.

The Ka-27 anti-submarine helicopter can search and detect submarines, track and defeat. The Ka-27 is capable of operating in adverse weather conditions, day or night, in rough seas of up to five points. The helicopter is equipped with a high-precision autopilot, which allows for a long time in automatic mode to occupy a position above a given point, which is necessary when operating a lowered hydroacoustic station. To combat submarines, an aiming and search system is used, which ensures the detection of the submarine, the determination of its coordinates, as well as the movement parameters and the development of recommendations for the use of weapons.
