The 1st year cadets of the 8th faculty of the Military Medical Academy took part in the Lesson of Courage, where they talked online with the veteran of the Great Patriotic War Maria Denisovna Koltakova. Video communication was established with the Belgorod regional branch of the International Public Fund “Russian Peace Foundation”, in which Maria Denisovna is an honorary member of the Board.

Before the start of the conversation, the cadets were shown a story about Maria Denisovna, which describes her life and military exploits.

Beginning the lesson, Maria Koltakova turned to the cadets of the Academy. She congratulated those present on the past holidays and wished a peaceful sky overhead and success in business.

The cadets listened to the story of Maria Denisovna’s life with bated breath. She started the war as a nurse in the 303rd Siberian Volunteer Division. In the first battle, she showed herself as a hero. A 20-year-old fragile girl pulled 27 wounded out from under fire. How many lives she saved exactly – Maria Denisovna did not count, she says that it is more than three hundred for sure.

During the war, she visited the hell of the Kursk battle, took part in the liberation of Auschwitz. Her dress jacket has many honorary awards. Among them – the medal “For military services”, the Order of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree, the Order of Glory of the 3rd degree and many others. After the war, she continued to work as a nurse.

Throughout her life, Maria Denisovna led an active and athletic lifestyle. Already in old age, she set 10 Russian records. In everyday life she is called “Iron Granny”, because after retiring, she dived with scuba diving, flew a hang glider and was a navigator of one of the crews at the Cup of the Mayor of Belgorod in the jeep trial “Path to Victory”.
